A documentary film SINK OR SURF explores the healing powers of the ocean through one woman's experience with Cystic Fibrosis. While Melissa's venture into the surf and salt water was a search for respite from an ever-challenging disease, she discovered more than just relief in her breathing but also solace from the emotional burdens that came along with it.
After nearly losing her life to a quick turn of fate with her disease and receiving a double lung transplant, Melissa found herself scraping and pulling herself up from rock bottom to begin the long recovery to make her way back into the water.
Through the challenges, her partner Joey has continued to adapt and reconstruct the process of surfing and chasing her dream of being out on the water.
A heartfelt and truthful perspective of the challenges of Cystic Fibrosis and organ transplant intertwined with the story of Melissa's journey to continue to seek the feeling of freedom the water once gave her.
